The standard (open) A-series differential can be converted to chain drive by replacing the crownwheel with a special end plate/sprocket adapter and enclosing the planet gears in a sealed oil can. The A-Series differential was available with three different types of output shafts 1) Early cars had outputs to suit rubber couplings 2) Cooper S and automatic cars had outputs to suit Hardy Spicer couplings 3) Later cars had outputs to suit 'pot joint' couplings.
For ease of obtaining spares it is recommended that the later 'pot joint' type output shafts are used.
The standard A-Series differential should only be considered for low powered road going applications.
For competition use it is highly recommended that you use the aftermarket Twin X-Pin A-Series differential as this is a lot stronger.
If you require a A-Series Limited Slip Differential, we can supply a chain drive version based on the Quaife QDF36K Swiftune ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) differential.
